General information about the construction of New Ångström (stage 4)
The impact on those working near a construction site varies from individual to individual. What follows describes disruptions that you commonly will have to deal with when working or living near construction.
Noise and vibrations
At a construction site, many different types of work are performed using many different machines. Noise levels vary over time, but normally laying the foundation causes the greatest disruptive noise and vibrations. The main types of work that generate noise and vibration are blasting, sheet pile driving, piling, excacation and packing. Blasting and piling are not relevant in this project.
Vibrations will be measured and monitored so that limit values are not exceeded. Regarding noise, sheet pile driving will produce the loudest and probably the most disturbing noises. Sheet pile driving involves embedding a support structure in the ground where there is no room to create sufficient slopes during excavation work.
Traffic and logistics
A large amount of material will be delivered to the construction site, which means that at times there will be several deliveries per hour to the building under construction. Inbound and outbound transports will take place from Kungsängsleden and Regementsvägen, with the goal of causing as little queuing as possible in the area. In addition to deliveries to the building, large quantities of soil also will be removed. When the soil is hauled away, some clay gets stuck on the wheels of the lorries, which means that the nearest roads outside the work area will periodically become muddy. Cleaning of these roads will take place, but not daily.
Debris and dust
There will be no debris from the workplace outside the work area. Orderliness inside the workplace will ensure that no debris spreads out from it. Temporary roads and storage places in the area are gravelled, and salt will be applied to the surfaces so that driving on them does not raise dust. Since the project will continue for a long time and is very large, there will certainly be some minor shortcomings in this regard, but regular monitoring will help avoid disturbances with debris and dust from the workplace.
Safety
The work areas are enclosed, and special rules apply at the workplace. No one may enter the workplace unannounced. It is important that this rule be respected. Barriers and special instructions outside the work area may also be used. These often pertain to personal safety, so it is important to follow them.
